March 2014

Saturday 01- windy and cloudy with a few sprinkles.
I did my stretches, yoga, lifted weights, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for 4 minutes. Then we went for a short walk through the desert.
Monday I will take Cassie down to get her spayed and I have some concerns about any surgery that’s done, even routine as this one appears to be, that something can go wrong. But I feel I am doing the right thing and it will be all over with and me and Cassie can get on with our lives.

Sunday 02- scattered clouds and wind.
I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a walk, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for eight minutes.
Because I am writing this a week later I don’t recall doing much else today except taking Cassie for her walks.

Monday 03-
I woke up at 7am to get ready to take Cassie down to get her spayed. I dropped her off at 8:30am and did some shopping for myself and Kelly who is getting over being sick with the flu and pneumonia. I went to WalMart to shop. I stopped at the McDonalds there and ordered an Egg Mcmuffin figuring it wouldn’t be much, but when I read the receipt for over $3.50 I asked for my money back; the lady manager gave me a mean face as she returned my money. Then on to another local supermarket for more shopping and drove all the way back to Kelly’s to drop off her groceries. I even shared some chicken hindquarters and potato wedges I bought (Which I thought was a nice thing to do at the time).
I went back to the Animal Action League's facilities to collect my Cassie. My heart dropped when I saw her being walked out of the trailer where they performed the surgery. She threw up twice being walked to my car and slept all the way back home; and for the rest of the day.
I started feeling a pain in my side but thought nothing of it; all I had was the chicken hindquarters and potato wedges to eat all day.

Tuesday 04-
Cassie is doing well today, a little stiff and the throwing up has stopped...
But now I'm very sick; Earlier this morning when I woke up and the pain in my left front side was unbearable. I was walking around feeling nauseated and all of a sudden I started to blackout and was able to stop my fall before I went unconscious. After a spell I got back up and I found I had lost hearing in one ear, but it came back after a spell and I went straight to bed. I think it was something I ate... kinda feels like food poisoning or something. Was feeling this pain in my left front side after eating the precooked chicken leg quarters from the deli at a local supermarket. The deli had just cooked it and putting under the heat lamp when I bought the chicken and the potato wedges. I was shopping for my Veteran friend Kelly and brought her a piece of the chicken and wedges to eat when I dropped off her groceries. I called her today and she said she had a similar experience as I and had passed out several times last night. I ain’t saying the chicken and potato wedges are what caused it, but when you have two people getting sick eating the same foods I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

Wednesday 05- Thursday 06- Sick!
I've been feeling a little better now after staying in bed with Cassie all day Wednesday and Thursday. I guess that's good thing because she's not to be active and I unable to play with her. I can get up for short periods to let her go pee and stuff.

Friday 07-
I am still very weak from being sick but want to continue my routine so did very lite exercises; my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a short walk, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for two minutes.
I went back to bed afterwards and only got up to take Cassie for short walks.

Saturday 08- cloudy at times with a nine breeze.
I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk. This is about all we did today because I am still feeling weak. I’ve been eating soup, bananas and oatmeal all this week and I decided to go for it and made me a peanut butter sandwich!

***** Stuff I Wrote this Week******

I pound long sturdy stakes into the ground so the shelter I am putting up is stationary and strong. Exhausted by my efforts I fall asleep with bow and axe by my side to awaken hours later to a night sky full of stars as they transverse their sparkly way across the heavens. The Sun now climbs over the mountains to light the day and spend many hours giving life to the land before it falls back into the vast sea again. A stiff wind blows and I seek refuge only to find all my provisions gone and my shelter has been torn and ripped away from those stakes I so battered with considerable diligence into the ground. As the night falls upon my meager camp I hear the cries of wolves as they catch scent of me and circle around for the kill. Having no weapons now because of the sudden storm I panic and flee, but they run me down; for once in my life I know the true meaning of impermanence.

We went for our evening walk while I listened to lecture 14 of Astro 7B. I keep seeing this pretty yellow flower at night, but when I for to take a picture of it in the daytime I can never find it. Very confusing for me until I discovered that this one particular flower only blooms in the night time!

I haven't heard from Kelly for a couple of days, we were supposed to go to the store on Monday, and thought she done died. I went to her house to check up on her. I called and called and there was no answer. I have the keys to her house so I let myself in. I saw her lying stuff on the bed and thought the worst but then she stirred a little and then woke up.

Thursday 27- a little breeze but nice.
I my stretches, yoga and took Cassie for a mile walk.
I took Kelly to the Social Services, then to the DMV where she finally got her car registered and her drivers license renewed; a very big leap for her for her and hopefully for the best. Now she can go places on her own and has the independence to do what she wants without depending on other people. We went shopping at The Pet Store, Vons, WalMart and ate burgers at Carl’s Jr. This time I got home just after the sun set and was greeted by yelps, whines and wagging tail of Cassie.

Saturday 29- sunny day.
I my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.
I was inside the kitchen cooking for the potluck Memorial we’re having for Violet Jonas when I heard Cassie barking at something and I went outside to investigate and found it was a Mojave Green rattlesnake... I was yelling at Cassie to stay away from the snake and she kept going back barking at it. I yelled so loud I scared her away from me getting to her. Finally I calmed down enough and called in the sweetest voice I could manage and she came and I picked her up and carried her into the house. I caught the snake with a bucket and broom, and went back inside to check every square inch of Cassie. I don't believe she was bitten... can't find any punctures and she is acting normal.
I ran back into the house to grab a camera so I can show Vet what kind of snake it was, took the snake about a mile away and let it loose. Then I remembered to take a picture of it as it crawled underneath the bush.
Talk about heart failure. I can't believe how stressed and upset I was... I think I scared Cassie more than the rattlesnake!

After three hours and Cassie acting her normal self I thought it was okay to got to the memorial.
There was a whole lot of family and friends showing up to say goodbye to Violet. There was lots of food there for all. I gave Chris Jonas my condolences for losing his beloved wife Violet.
I dropped by Kelly’s and dropped her off some potluck leftovers and told her about the events of the day and how upset I was over Cassie and the snake. Then I went back home and tried to mellow out for the rest of the night,

Sunday 30- dang windy! Dust in the air!
I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile and a half run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for two minutes.
I was told that water in ponds draws snakes, so I emptied both ponds until I come up with a better idea. My heart is still beating fast after yesterday when Cassie encountered the Green Mojave snake. At least all she did was bark at the snake alerting me to it. She peed in the house a couple of times since the incident, something she hasn’t done in a while, and has been staying away from the bushes on our walks, which is a good thing. The peeing in the house not so good but I just clean it up and don’t bother her about it; she stopped doing that after a couple of days.
I watched:
Marvel's The Avengers 2012
Raising Hope S1 E5 – Happy Halloween

Monday 31- not as windy as yesterday.
I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile and a half run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for two minutes.

Took Cassie for a walk.
I watched the movie “Tora! Tora! Tora!” (1970) American-Japanese war film about the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Goodby to March!
