February 2017

February 2017

Wednesday 01- 68 to 47 hazy.
I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, punched the heavybag for a spell and jogged a mile with the dogs.
I cut up a whole bunch of wood for the wood stove. I used the new 2 stroke 1000 watt generator and it cut right through the old 2X4s without any problem; that kinda surprised me.
I did the poop patrol and collected a whole bunch of...
I took the dogs for a walk and listened to the rest of the lecture 2 on climate.
I went online to find that all four books I ordered were either inside or outside at my mailbox on Lear. I jumped in the truck and drove down there right away just incase they were sitting outside... thankfully the mail person was able to get them all inside: two books on latin, one on microscopy, and a new and better keyboard that lights up for my Microsoft Surface RT.

Thursday 02- 65 to 47 hazy.
I did my stretches, yoga.
I went to the post office to pick up my Alphasmart NEO2 mobile word processor I ordered on Ebay.
I started listening to lecture 3 while I walked a mile with the dogs.

Friday 03- 70 to 46 degrees and clear.

Saturday 04- 66 to 46

Sunday 05- 63 to 41
I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, punched the heavybag for a spell and jogged a mile with the dogs.

I exercised with the 10lb dumbbells and took the dogs for a walk while I listened to lecture 4 in the climate series, but because of their rowdy misbehaving and continuous barking I shortly had to march the dogs right back and continue walking on my own.

Monday 06- 64 to 53 a very sad day for me and my family.
I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lbs dumbbells and took the doggies on a mile jog.
I called my Dad to see how he was doing only to find he passed away fifteen minutes earlier. I was on the phone to family and friends for all day.

I did my stretches and mope around the house all day and called family.

Wednesday 08- 78 to 54
I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lbs dumbbells and took the doggies on a mile jog.
I finally got out there and dug a hole for the clothes hanger thingy that looks like an umbrella when you unfold it. I had to mix cement for the post holder that obviously the umbrella post slips into.
Barney was frantically barking and I went outside to see what was up; Cassie had somehow gotten herself on the other side of the gate. I walk the perimeter of the fence and found where she had made it over the fence by pulling it down from the iron fence posts. I did a quick fix of it and will by more fence ties tomorrow.

Thursday 09-
I did my stretches.
I went to WalMart to get supplies and a haircut. Then on to Home Depot to get 20 more pavers for my laundry room and some wire ties for the fence where Cassie got out.
I got home and shared the roasted chicken with Cassie and Barney, and then we all went for a short walk.
I talked with my cousin Marguerite catching up on things and life in general.

Friday 10- 80 to 58
I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lbs dumbbells and took the doggies on a mile jog.
I unloaded the pavers from the truck and laid and positioned them on the ground. That’s a whole lot of work.
Did the Poop Patrol of the yard... I think I need to cut down on the amount of food I feed them doggies.

Saturday 11- 66 to 52 degrees with clouds.
I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, and punched the heavybag.
I worked in the yard in the back gathering old junk and tossing it into the dumpster.
I took the dogs out for a short walk.

Sunday 12- 66 to 49 and cloudy.
I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, punched the heavybag for three minutes, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with Cassie, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and rode my electric pedal assisted bike for 3 miles. I did all them exercises that I do in the morning. On my ride with the bike I met Fonsel who bought and is weekending at the home of my old neighbor who played the Australian musical instruments didgeridoo and bullroarer at night and built a fortress for his cat.
This will be my first Sunday in many years that I didn’t call my Dad.
I went around the with silicone sealer filling in some holes where water leaked inside the house and laundry room.
I talked with my sister Lynn for a long spell about our family.

Dug a deeper trench around the back to drain rainwater from the big storm coming our way.
I called AAA to insure the Mini Cooper and also uninsured the scooter that’s not working now.

Saturday 18- 51 to 46 with drizzles and moderate rain.
Brian and Naomi Kayla and Courtney came by for a quick visit.

Sunday 19- 56 to 43 with early morning drizzles and then a few cloud.
Dogs escaped, mend fence, mile run, lecture 5.... Busy day.

Struggled with the little 2cycle generator washing close in the side loading washer; not enough power to run it. I finally got the larger Honda Generator running and was able to finish getting the washer to cycle all the way through to the end.
I took the dogs for an evening walk and listened to lecture 6 the last one on the Cambridge University’s lecture series on Adaptation to Climate Change.
Did some reading of my text books:
I started writing again and added to “On Ashen Roads” and getting familiar again with the first chapter.

Tuesday 21- 72 to 47
Wrist hurts decided not to do exercises today. I cleaned yard instead and threw a bunch of stuff I don’t need anymore and useless to anyone else into the dumpster.
I got my delivery of the Haynes Repair Manual for the Mini Cooper.

Wednesday 22- 66 to 39 very windy with gusts past 40 MPH
I did my stretches. Still my wrist hurts.

I did the dreaded Poop Patrol.

Thursday 23- 52 to 34 and still windy.
I did my stretches.
I went to town and bought more 20 more pavers for the laundry room.

Friday 24- 57 to 36
I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk.
I laid down all the pavers and almost have the whole laundry room floor covered with them. I probably need about ten or so more to finish it off.

Saturday 25-
At our potluck we had almost 20 hungry souls showing up to feast upon the grub we brought to share. Our theme this month was pink and red to celebrate Washington's birthday and Valentine’s Day. Birthday gift bags were given out to those folks whose birthdays fell in December, January and February... we gotten a little behind on the bag thingy. The list of food that was lovingly donated is just too long to include here. It was mighty good grub to be sure; me and Cal was shoveling it in like coal into one of them old steam locomotives going up a steep grade. So, we’ll just thank those who contributed their fine cuisine: Mary and Chris including their three relatives from Santa Ana, Dyan and Dorothy and son John, Cal, and Bruce. Everyone donated a few bucks to help offset the cost of electricity and the little nicknacks Mary provides. Everyone was yammering about this and that, but mostly about the road vote. I explained it was a good thing to vote yes and raise it up to $60 a year instead of keeping it at the $20 we been paying over the last two decades or more. I also told the folks who rent to tell the owners of the property to vote yes on the ballot and mail it in.
I continued to write chapter two of “Upon Ashen Roads” and I think I finished the chapter.

Sunday 26- 59 to 43 with clouds with a bit of rain.
I did my stretches, used lite weights on the weight bench; my wrist still hurts, punched the heavybag for a minute, and took the doggies for a mile jog.

Monday 27- 55 to 42 with rain.
I did my stretches.
I worked writing chapter three of “Upon Ashen Roads”.

Tuesday 28- 62 to 39 with a bit of cold wind.
I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk.
I worked writing and finished chapter three of “Upon Ashen Roads”.

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

Hollywood can make dreams, but falls short on reality.
~RD

When folks come out to the desert for the first time and can really see our dark night skies without all the light pollution, they always seem to ask, "What is that cloud going across the sky?" Just the words “What is that cloud” tells me they know it’s something other than a cloud.
"Why that’s the Milky Way," I reply and then I get into my astronomy mode to answer their questions and point out all kinds of interesting facts and a few constellations I know.
Kinda makes me wonder about some of those who live in the cities who have never experienced firsthand the vastness of the universe and hardly ever look up in awe towards the night sky.

Upon starry sky
Crescent lies the Moon
On calm waters shimmer
Beams of silver dance.

You are my soul
You are my life
You are why I wake in the morning
You are why I sleep peacefully at night
You are the one
You are the only
Because you are the one I Love
~RD

Love is our tapestry, displayed from walls for all to see. Words alone cannot express our love, but a blessing from above.
Threadbare through the ages of life’s adventures, struggles and pain, these tattered threads we shall mend, this tapestry woven with love will never end.
~RD

Love is like a waterfall
that flows over mountains tall
gathering strength
it rushes to the sea
to wash upon distant shores
by windward breeze
of faraway lands
to live as one
no longer just a me
this love I truly seek of thee
To cast away all sorrows and pain
and spread the burden
share any shame
To know someone deeply
desiring only the best
To enjoy only harmony, trust, comfort and love
as we lay together at peace and at rest
~RD

I'm more of a rattlesnake than anything else... I watch, I listen, I know my environment... you see me curl up you better tread lightly.
